Back to Quito and on to Cotopaxi

We were sad to leave the Beauty of the Galapagos islands ... But were glad to leave behind the sand flies, Mosquitos, wasps and the (sometimes quite intense) rocking of the boat while trying to sleep!!! :)

First we went to Cotopaxi volcano (in the Cotopaxi province) ... We parked at the lagoon at the base of Cotopaxi and then hiked against a freezing constant head wind to the base camp at around 16,000 ft above sea level. The hike would have continued up towards the glacier but we were frozen and tired ... So we had to turn back from the base camp.
